ESOL Students winning Jack Petchey Awards

The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London held a Jack Petchey Awards ceremony to celebrate high performing ESOL Entry Level s 1, 2 and 3 students on Wednesday 16 June.

Students were nominated by their peers and the three students with the most nominations from each ESOL class won awards. Vice Principal, Kurt Hintz presented the awards of certificates and medals to the winners. The winners also received £250 to spend on an educational trip of their choice.

Ragostina Semerdzhieva (pictured below) an ESOL Entry Level 2 student said: “I was not expecting to win, I was surprised and appreciative. I have the best teacher who helped me get through the course. I am overjoyed to win the award!”

Following the ceremony, the students celebrated with an end of year party with great music, food and a delicious homemade cake made by their ESOL teacher, Oya Karabetca. Oya stated: “ESOL (16-18) students all come from different countries, mostly within the EU. I am so proud of all of them as they have achieved so much in a short amount of time, achieving their Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life qualification”.
