A College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London (CONEL) ICT and Computing teacher, Kofi Amo, won the Adult Learners Week South East Region award for outstanding teaching earlier in the year (June 2015). CONEL provides one-day IT courses which run over five weeks for HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) at Alexander House in Southend-On-Sea. Kofi has supported more than 120 staff members to advance their Microsoft Office Skills as a result of regular IT Level 1 and 2 courses. His remarkable achievements have been recognised with a Tutor Award in the South East Regional Awards Ceremony and were celebrated as part of Adult Learners’ Week, 13 – 19 June.
Kofi’s course have proved invaluable to staff, many of whom previously had little 'hands on' training, often learning by watching other colleagues or through trial and error.
Kofi who is an enthusiastic teacher, is often described as open, friendly and approachable. His teaching allows people to develop at their own pace and he is always available to answer queries by email. Kofi teaches his students commercial, professional and social skills, equipping them for all facets of life. Kofi is also a representative of the Public and Commercial Services Union.
Nominator, and Branch Learning Coordinator, Darrell Binding, said: “I have received many positive testimonials for Kofi, but his best testimonial is the legacy he is creating in helping staff in our business to develop IT skills and encouraging others to take up his courses.”
Kofi said: “My desire to share and communicate my passion for my subject is what inspired me to become a teacher. Teaching is something that gives me a special relationship with people from very diverse backgrounds. The unique connection I make with people through IT is incredibly satisfying.”
