CONEL plumbing student
Construction firm Durkan is to provide 16 diploma level students at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London (CONEL) with work experience programmes at the Dujardin Mews housing estate.
The students will work on-site for two weeks starting form 16 June, as part of their Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment. They will work in plumbing, electrical installation, painting and decorating.
Enfield Council’s Dujardin Mews scheme will feature 38 homes and is the first part of the Alma Estate regeneration programme in Ponders End. It is scheduled to open in the summer.
Paolo Corchia, curriculum manager at CONEL, said: "Site experience is essential in order to take the step up to a full construction apprenticeship. Many construction diploma students struggle to find employers willing to give them the opportunity. This work experience programme at Dujardin Mews will be invaluable as a stepping stone to a full apprenticeship."
The work experience programme forms part of Enfield Council’s housing estate renewal and investment initiative. Working in collaboration with another contractor and Joe Brennan Training (JBT), diploma level students from Dujardin Mews will have the opportunity to be selected for further trainee and apprenticeships on the Alma Estate.
