Thrilled College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London student, Dailiena Martinez Moreno, scooped first prize in the Chris and Sons annual hair styling competition yesterday (27 April 2016), sponsored by Babyliss. The competition was judged by highly respected hairdressing and competition professional, Patrick Cameron.

Hairdressing Level 2 learner, Dailiena beat off stiff competition from 20 top student hair stylists from local colleges and leading industry academies, such as Toni and Guy. Dailiena, who outshone her competitors by a country mile, impressed with her ability to work under pressure, her technical precision and her creative flair.

Each competitor not only created a fully-styled model – including costume and make-up, but also an A2 sized mood board to show the creative process and thinking behind their styles.

The competition was judged on three main criteria; technical skills, overall look and how well the style represented the ideas on the mood board.
With only two hours to complete the look and Patrick Cameron assessing each competitor throughout, the pressure was on.

Speaking about her win Dailiena said: “It’s just amazing, I was very excited. I practiced a lot with students and with my teacher. The look I developed was based on the Tango. I created basket weave at the front and a flower at the back of the style.”

Paris Davison, who modelled for Dailiena is one of CONEL's Beauty Level 2 students and she appeared stunning in the exquisite look created for her.
