Level 2 Creative and Media students: Fatimat Abdulkareem, Ana-Maria Pavlova, Eduardo Fernandez and Mateusz Wilk
Creative and Media Level 2 and 3 students from the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London visited the Royal Television Society Future careers fair at the Business Design Centre in Islington on Wednesday 1 February.
The Royal Television Society (RTS) Careers Fair is the ultimate TV careers show that helps students get their first job in TV. The students had the chance to meet with TV’s leading companies.
The students networked with industry professionals such as BBC Academy, Channel 4, ITV Studios, Sky and Viacom and found out about the range of job schemes and opportunities available.
Level 2 Media student, Fatimat Abdulkareem (pictured first left) said: “I was given information from speaking to employers like BBC Academy. I received great networking and career advice.”
The RTS careers fair held interview masterclasses, and the students had the opportunity to get their CV tweaked by professionals. The students were involved in sessions with some of the most influential creatives in TV. The workshops held on the day featured TV’s biggest names alongside the industry’s up and coming talent.
The exhibition included over 30 broadcasters and industry bodies, offering great advice and helpful hints and tips of how they can enter this thriving yet competitive industry.
Ana-Maria Pavlova (pictured second left) said: “It was great to make new contacts. I found out what to do and how established media professionals started in the industry.”
The students were given advice from employers about how to stand out from the crowd. Eduardo Fernandez (pictured second right) said: “I found out about various work experience opportunities and how to land my first job in Media.” Mateusz Wilk (pictured far right) added: “I have already applied to some of the work experience opportunities I found at the careers fair.”
Sharon Wallace, Curriculum Manager for Computing and Creative and Media, said: “It was a brilliant day as it was very useful for the students. They gained a great insight into the industry and they talked to professionals to find out how to get work experience and roles within Media.“
